My Approach

Hi! I’m Emma (she/her). I am so glad you are here. I am a settler on the traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg. I work as a registered social worker providing counselling and psychotherapy services with twenty years of experience supporting adults, youth, children and families. I offer an inclusive, affirming, collaborative, compassionate and strengths-based space for people of all identities and experiences.

I offer a free virtual (video/phone) consult where we can connect, share information, briefly review your goals and my approach to make sure we are a good fit.

The main therapeutic modalities that I draw upon are narrative therapy, parts work and mindfulness. I often include somatic practices that can include grounding exercises, meditation, breath work and movement. My practice is grounded in an anti-oppressive framework that is informed by anti-racism, decolonization theory, feminism, queer theory and disability justice.

I am constantly learning (and unlearning), committed to ongoing personal and professional growth, and participate in my own therapy, professional development and clinical supervision.

We’ll work together to build a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, collaboration and transparency. Mapping out a path to the changes you want to make, we’ll use a variety of therapeutic tools and modalities to support your journey. You matter, your voice is important, and you will be in control of the process and pace during our time together. You will be encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback about your experience.

In addition to my therapeutic role, I work as a certified yoga instructor and have been teaching since 2007. I hold specialized training in prenatal, post-natal, parent/baby, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and traumatic brain injury friendly yoga practices. Most importantly, I am a parent to three wildly imaginative kids who are constantly inspiring and challenging me to be a better human. Many of us in the perinatal field come to this work because of our own experiences. Life can feel hard sometimes because it IS hard. I am committed to creating a space where you feel seen, heard and supported.
